Lagos State

Although Lagos state is the smallest state in Nigeria, with an area of 356,861 hectares of which 75,755 hectares are wetlands, yet it has the highest population, which is over five per cent of the national estimate.

The state has a population of 17 million out of a national estimate of 150 million. The rate of population growth is about 600,000 per annum The UN estimates that at its present growth rate, Lagos state will be third largest mega city the world by Y2015 after Tokyo in Japan and Bombay in India.

The implication of this is that Lagos state is now facing a huge demand on its social services resulting several socio-economic problems in Lagos that have led to an increase in the number of street children who live on/off the streets of Lagos.

It is based on this widespread phenomenon that the Lagos State Government is partnering with the Inspire Africa Foundation, Moments with Mo and UNICEF  in the first ever, Inspire Africa Benefit Concert to ensure the rights of these children to survival, development and protection against abuse, neglect and exploitation.

Let’s work on saving our children.
